September 15, 2010. A panel in Washington, D.C. Tuesday discussed a U.S. House bill to remove obstacles to selling U.S. agriculture commodities to Cuba. The measure would also end American travel restrictions to Cuba.

National Farmers Union President Roger Johnson calls it 50 years of failed policy and says the Cuban embargo is not working. Johnson says that with the current economic environment, it's vital to end the embargo and open the market for U.S. farmers and ranchers.

The panel also included Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar, House Agriculture Committee Chairman Collin Peterson, and House Agriculture Committee member Leonard Boswell, who chairs the Subcommittee on General Farm Commodities and Risk Management. The three lawmakers also favor an end to the Cuba embargo.
