During a ceremony in Xalapa, in the Mexican state of Veracruz, it was announced that the higher education center gave this distinction to the Cuban personalities because it “represents the respect, admiration and recognition of the talent and the humanistic vocation of their admirable careers”, Prensa Latin news agency reports.
The Rector of the university, Raul Arias Lovillo, said that Silvio and Eusebio are both men of convictions, who defend the ideals and political processes of their homeland and also the Cuban people’s right to self-determination.
Historian Felix Julio Alfonso received the award on behalf of Eusebio Leal while Silvio Rodriguez, present in the ceremony, spoke of his first steps as a singer-song writer. He recently performed in Ciudad Juarez during a gala for peace, solidarity and Latin American fraternity.
