Wed Sep 22, 2010 4:30AM. Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad (R) meets with Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez on Tuesday. Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad calls for bolstering ties with Cuba, noting that the two countries have enjoyed sustained ties for more than three decades.

Ahmadinejad made the remarks in a meeting with Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez on Tuesday on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly's annual session in New York.

The Iranian chief executive also said that he accords respect to former Cuban leader Fidel Castro and his revolutionary spirit.

Rodriguez, for his part, voiced his country's support for the Islamic Republic and said Castro likes the Iranian nation and respects Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.

President Ahmadinejad also met with his Bolivian counterpart Evo Morales on the same day and discussed pathways that would benefit both countries.

Earlier on Tuesday, Ahmadinejad had separate meetings with Namibian President Hifikepunye Pohamba and King of Swaziland Mswati III.

The two African states expressed interest in furthering ties with the Islamic Republic and stressed how essential the expansion of relations is to them.

President Ahmadinejad has travelled to New York to attend the 65th session of the United Nations General Assembly. He addressed the forum on Tuesday.
