Former president Fidel Castro addressed the Cubans in front of the old Presidential Palace in Havana, the same place where he called for a creation of a grass root organization in 1960, it was the Defense Committees of the Revolution.

28/09/2010 -Havana-.Former president of Cuba, Fidel Castro stated today that Cubans have fulfilled their duty and will continue doing so with the promise of the day in which the Defense Committees were created (CDR, Spanish Acronym) whose half a century of existence was celebrated today in Havana in a multitudinary act.

"I do not hesitate to proclaim we have fulfilled and you will continue doing so the promise of that eternal night" , Castro said with the presence of 20 000 persons in Havana, during his speech for the 50 Anniversary of the creation of the CDR as a system of "revolutionary collective surveillance."

The Cuban leader spoke in front of the Presidential Palace of Havana, the same place where he called to organize this grass root organization with a speech he almost reiterated when he read his main ideas issued in 1960.

Dressed in a green olive suit, standing up and with a good humor, Castro spoke for more than an hour and a half to recall the circumnstances that led to the creation of the CDRS and also reiterated his warnings about the nuclear perils the world is experiencing right now.
