Brazilian Musician to receive Intl. Cubadisco Prize

HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 12 (acn) Brazilian musician and composer Egberto Gismonti will receive the International Cubadisco Prize on Saturday in this capital, for his album Saudacoes (Greetings).
Saudacoes is made up by two CD’s: Dueto de violoes, with guitar performances by his son Alexandre, and the Suite Sertoes Veredas, especially composed for a women’s string orchestra and recorded in Havana on August, 2006, Prensa Latina news agency reported.
The Cubadisco (Cuba’s annual record fair and contest) prize, conferred by the Cuban Music Institute, will be given to the renowned Brazilian pianist, guitarist, flautist and composer at the San Francisco de Assisi Minor Basilica, where Zenaida Romeu and her Camerata will interpret six of the Suite’s seven parts.
On Friday, Gismonti will participate in the closing of the 2nd Leo Brouwer Chamber Music Festival, the final program of which will include the piece “From Brouwer to Gismonti”, a courtesy by his Cuban colleague, who composed in his honor Gismontina, a piece for guitars and a string quartet.
