Cuba-Venezuela undersea cable project starts in January: official

21:26, November 02, 2010.The laying of a submarine fiber optic cable linking Cuba and Venezuela will start in January 2011, a Cuban official said on Monday.

Waldo Reboredo, vice president of Telecommunications Gran Caribe SA, the joint venture running the project, said the cost of the investment would exceed 70 million U.S. dollars and the cable would have a life span of 25 years.

The undersea fiber optic cable will run from the Venezuelan port of La Guaira to the Cuban beach town of Siboney.
