2010.11.16 - 13:32:57 / [email protected]. Havana, Cuba. - Captain of the frigate, Rex Cox placed a flower wreath today before the bust of the National Hero José Martí in the Central Park of this city.
Cox and some of his crew members were accompanied by Ship Captain José Piñeiro Loredo, from the Revolutionary Navy and Dianna Melrose, Ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
The Manchester warship, a destroyer from the British Royal Navy, entered Monday in Havana Bay, 53 years after Bigbury Bay frigate visited here in 1957.
Cox said the crew’s stay in Cuba is an honor and a privilege, and hopes this visit to be the first of many trips to the island. “The first thing that struck me as I approached the Cuban coast, was the beautiful skyline of the city, " said the British officer, and I also felt very honored to visit the Ernesto Che Guevara’s headquarter.
We really enjoy being in Havana, he added, and we want to go on in touch with the people and get to know it a little more. The ship’s crew will tour the facilities of the Naval Academy Granma, a senior educational institution of the Revolutionary Armed Forces today in the afternoon
