HAVANA, Cuba. - The Cuban ambassador to India, Miguel Ramirez, affirmed –in a lecture called “Updating the Cuban economic model”, delivered at the Nehru University— that the objective of the economic rearrangement process, currently underway in Cuba, is to make the existing socialist project more viable.

Ramirez gave details on the Social and Economic Guidelines that are being discussed by the Cuban people, reported Prensa Latina news agency.

The Cuban diplomat also said that the document comprising the guidelines will be taken to popular debate prior to its discussion at the Sixth Congress of the Communist Party of Cuba, scheduled for the last two weeks of April next year.

He also spoke of the impact of the US economic, financial and commercial blockade imposed upon Cuba for more than 50 years.

At the academic meeting, the former Indian ambassador to Cuba, R. Rajagopalan, said that Cuba is an example and a lesson for students of international relations.

Rajagopalan added that despite international economic problems, the collapse of the socialist system in Eastern European countries, the natural disasters that have battered it, and the US blockade, Cuba has been able to move forwards without following any dogmatic policy and has been able to make the necessary adjustments when needed.
