Tuesday, 23 November 2010 15:50 Public Information Service Unit. 23 November 2010-The Philippine Embassy in Cuba reiterated its warning against unscrupulous individuals recruiting Filipinos for non-existent jobs in Haiti.
This is due to increasing numbers of Filipinos arriving in Haiti who were promised high paying jobs, as monitored by the members of the Filipino community and Haiti and reported by Philippine Honorary Consul in Haiti Fitzgerald Brandt.
Recently, nine Filipinos arrived in Haiti in two batches. This has brought the total number of victims of human trafficking in Haiti to 26.
The Embassy suspects that the Filipinos are victims of the same recruiter, a certain Marla Consolacion, aka Marla Wong or Marla Habas, a resident of Paranaque and Laguna.
It was also found out that the recruiter have Filipino accomplices based in Manila and in Haiti."There are no available 'walk-in' jobs in Haiti. Job opportunities available require technical skills and hiring thru pre-arranged contracts with reconstruction-related companies," Philippine Ambassador to Cuba Dr. Macarthur Corsino said earlier.
