By: ANNE-MARIE GARCIA. AP. Havana. Cuban baseball star Frederich Cepeda said on Tuesday he will play with Sancti Spiritus’ team next Cuban Baseball Championship beginning on Sunday.

Cepeda said he is back to training "on Wednesday" and added he was "happy to contribute to the cause of Sancti Spiritus in the upcoming campaign," according to an interview published Tuesday by the local and state Escambray Daily . He continued saying he will be with the roosters (Sancti Spiritus’ team) the next series."

The island's sports authorities have not issued any statement on the case, however, a source of the Cuban Sports Institute confirmed the decision to the AP, of Cepeda’s return to the game.

Mystery surrounded Cepeda, one of the basic pillars and captain of the Cuban team, when all of the sudden he did not join the Cuban team that won the Intercontinental Cup in Taiwan in November. No further information has been released on this issue. Cepeda batted .379 and was named the best designated hitter at Puerto Rico's premundial but he lost the final against Dominican Republic last October.
