30.11.2010, 19.27. MOSCOW, November 30 (Itar-Tass) -- Russia is the closest partner of Cuba, Cuban National Assembly Speaker Ricardo Alarcon told a Tuesday press conference at the Itar-Tass main office.
“Russia-Cuba relations cannot be the same as they were in the Soviet period, but Cuba singles out Russia amongst its partners and friends even under the modern circumstances,” he said.
“Relations between [Cuban and Russian] parliaments are also friendly and fruitful,” he said. “That was confirmed during meetings in Havana and Moscow. Intergovernmental relations are also gradual. If there is a mutual will, it is possible to broaden economic relations. As for international affairs, the countries have similar views on main contemporary problems.”
“Preparations for the Havana meeting of the Cuban-Russia Intergovernmental Commission are almost over. We think that the meeting will give a boost to bilateral relations,” he said.
The speaker planned to meet with Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Kirill and to visit St. Petersburg for a number of official meetings and sightseeing.
