Over 50 thousand people from the 14 Cuban provinces are linked to the Clubs Friends of Danzon, a movement that preserve the cultural roots of the country through its national dance.

Caridad Rodríguez, president of those groups, said to AIN that nowadays these associations make shows, theoretical meetings about the Cuban history and music and competitions.

With periodicity are held, sponsored by this movements, dance competitions in Havana, Matanzas, Santiago de Cuba and Camagüey.

During the VII recently concluded edition of the Barbarito Diez Festival, in Las Tunas, the representatives of the Clubs showed the results of their community work, aimed to present this artistic expression as a life element inside the national culture.

For the researcher Ageo Martínez this genre has been classified as something destined for older people, which together with the underestimation of its rhythmic potentials, scare presence in the media and the lack of specialized dance rooms, make much harder its promotion.

The president of the Danzon dancers from Santiago de Cuba, assures that there are experiences that show the sensibility of the population to this dance, which manages to combine a big part of the moral and ethic conception of the Cuban society.

Miguel Faílde, from Matanzas, was the creator of the first Danzon, titled Las alturas de Simpson, the first of January 1879, in the halls of the Matanzas Artistic and Literary School.
