Pupils at the Worksop Post 16 Centre fundraising to take part in Operation Wallacea in Cuba. (w101208-11a)Published on Wed Dec 15 18:27:54 GMT 2010. Students from Worksop will be heading to Cuba next year to take part in a research project.
The group of ten A level pupils from the Post 16 Centre will learn to scuba dive, search for manatees among the mangroves and have night visits to beaches to monitor turtle nests.
They are currently fundraising to pay for the visit planned for July. Each student has to raise over £2,000 to take part.
Student mentor Wendy Allanson said: “It is an exciting and challenging opportunity that focuses on fundraising and independent initiative.”
“We are proud to be getting students involved in current scientific research for the direct benefit of conservation. Not only does this get them involved in a very worthy project, but the fieldwork experience that they gain should allow them to stand out amongst their peers during university and future career applications.”
