Cuban Pitcher Achieves No-hitter in National Series

2010.12.24 - 14:03:57 / [email protected]. Vladimir Baños.HAVANA, CUBA.- Right handed pitcher Vladimir Baños achieved a no-hitter game against the Matanzas Crocodiles in westernmost Pinar del Rio province.

This was the 51st no hit, no runs game in Cuban national series, and Baños best ever pitched game, when he struck out eight and didn’t walk any opponent.

The game ended 5-0 with victory for the Pinar del Rio Lowlands that stays as one of the leaders in the western division with 12 wins and 9 losses.

Lowland’s shortstop David Castillo, one of the best defenders in Cuban baseball, made an error in the fifith inning, thus preventing Baños from achieving a perfect game. He faced only 27 batters since next batter hit for a dobleplay.

Now the right hurler has 2 wins and one loss, and in 35 innings has 26 struck outs and batters average a low .215 against him.

Pinar del Rio took the lead in the very first inning when they scored twice and complete the job in the sixth when outfielder Mijain Rivera shot a three-run homer.
