Escrito por Estela McCollin.Brasilia, Jan 2 (Prensa Latina) Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff welcomed Cuban First Vice President Jose Ramon Machado Ventura on Sunday and they held friendly talks on diverse issues of bilateral interest.

During their meeting at Planalto Palace, Rousseff and Machado Ventura decided to increase aid to Haiti to fight cholera and prevent it from spreading throughout the region, given that cases have been reported in the Dominican Republic.

The two leaders addressed bilateral relations, especially Brazil's cooperation in the construction of the port of Mariel near the Cuban capital, and in developing soy crops in Cuba.

Others at the meeting included Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez, Council of State Secretary Homero Acosta and Cuban Ambassador Carlos Zamora.

Machado Ventura met with Rousseff shortly before leaving Brazil, having begun his visit on Friday, leading the Cuban delegation to the Jan. 1 presidential inauguration.rma/rab/emw/et/ale
