The Cuban tourism ministry is “working very hard” to attract a cruise line that offers around-Cuba cruises for Canadian tourists next winter, an official told weekly business magazine Opciones. José Manuel Bisbé, commercial director of the Tourism Ministry, didn’t specify.
Bisbé made the announcement during the first arrival of a Montreal-Havana flight by Canadian vacation airline Sunwing. This is the first time the No. 1 Canadian carrier in Cuba is offering a city destination to Canadian tourists. Traditionally, Air Canada was the only Canadian carrier flying to Havana.
He said that in order for Cuba to reach its ambitious tourism growth goals for 2011, there must be a more diversified offer. Canada is Cuba’s No. 1 source market.
