The Supreme Court of Panama declared legal the application of the Cuban health program Operation Miracle in Panama, which benefited about 75,000 people.

The decision of Judge Victor Benavides, of the Third Board did not accept the complaint of the National Medical Association, which considered illegal the work of the doctors in this country.

According to Benavides, the arrival of Cuban specialists met all legal standards contained in the Constitution and the Sanitary Code of Panama.

The doctors cooperated in the opthalmology area since 2007, but the initiative was challenged by local doctors.

Cuba withdrew its medical staff in February 2010 following the unilateral measure taken by the government of Ricardo Martinelli to end the cooperation program, which also takes place in 35 other countries and has served 1,8 million people worldwide.
