Unbeaten Linares leads Cuba's national chess tournament

Photo: Amauris Betancourt The win by Grand Master (GM) Oleiny Linares, the defeat of also GM Maritza Arribas and the success of rookie Amanda Gutierrez marked the fifth round of the National Women Chess Championship underway at the Provincial Sport Museum in the Cuban city of Holguin.
Good Start for Chess Players of Holguin
Linares (Santiago de Cuba) ratified the leading condition with four points now after defeating FIDE Master (MF) Tania Miranda of Camaguey.
On the other hand, International Master (IM) Yanira Vigoa (Matanzas) won over GM Maritza Arribas and rookie Amanda Gutierrez beat GM Sulennis Pina of Granma.
Other winners were IM Yerisbel Miranda (Pinar del Rio), GM Zirka Frometa (Santiago de Cuba), GM Vivian Ramon (Havana) that beat Lisandra Llaudy – only Holguin rep, and FM Ivette Catala (Pinar del Rio).
The other three matches ended in a draw, while the contest’s standing goes as follows, Linares (leader with four points), Miranda, Gutierrez and Vigoa (3,5), Arribas, Miranda, Marrero, Ordaz, Ramon with three points.
