Pinar del Rio, Cuba, Feb 8 (Prensa Latina) Cuban anthropologists will assess alleged evidence of Aboriginal burial practices, found in Pinar del Rio, local researchers confirmed on Tuesday.

Researchers found fragments of human skeletons with reddish tones found on a hillock in the municipality of Minas de Matahambre, northwest of Cuba, said Hilario Carmenate, head of the Provincial Speleological Committee to Prensa Latina.

He commented that in the place previously explored by archaeologists, appeared pieces of skulls and other skeletal remains, painted in red, a habit attributed to the natives who inhabited the archipelago several millennia ago.

The procedure is taking by specialists as a kind of cult to dead.

Previous investigations revealed the presence of other valuable relics linked to the colonial period, but until now it was ignored the existence of a burial site there associated with the primitive communities.

Further tests may confirm the age of the parts of bones, sex, age and perhaps the cause of death, researchers just started, he said.

So far in the region were located 40 rock art sites, mostly aboriginal petroglyph and pictographs.
