Havana, Feb 14 (Prensa Latina) Granma newspaper on Monday extolled the performance of Cuban boxers in the Bocksai Memorial tournament in Hungary over the weekend.
The Cuban boxers, led by Rolando Acebal won two gold medals, one silver and four bronzes to conquer the competition.
Last year, in the Hungarian city of Debrecen, the Cubans won a gold medal, four silvers and two bronzes, the same amount of medals as this time, but now with three men less.
The gold winners were Olympic runner-up Emilio Correa in the 75 kg category, because of the non-appearance of Russian Arten Chevotarev, and Erislandy Savón, who caused Romanian Mihai Nistor to leave the ring in mid-fight, in the over-91kg category.
The Pan-American champion Yasniel Toledo (60kg) lost the final 1-4 against Russian Albert Selimov, and the bronzes went to Yosvani Veitia (48), Robeisis Ramirez (52), Julio Cesar La Cruz (81) and Roniel Iglesias (64), who did enter the ring for the semifinals because of a hand inujury.
The only Cuban boxer not to win a medal was Perot Leinier (91kg).
