2011.02.15radiorebelde.HAVANA, CUBA.- Headed by Jose Antonio Guerra, Cuban divers will participate in the first stage of the Grand Prix, to take place in Madrid, the Spanish capital, from February 18th through the 20th.

Guerra will compete in the individual diving board and in the synchronized competition, along with talented Jeinkler Aguirre, a specialty in which they will try to defend the titles they obtained in the 2010 edition, also held in Madrid, the Jit Web site reported.

Guerra, number two in world ranking in the diving board –after Chinese Aisen Chen-, will also compete in synchronized springboard, together with young Jorge Luis Pupo.

The Guerra-Aguirre duo is fourth in world ranking, with 34 units, after the representatives from China (70), the Ukraine (48) and Russia (46), in that order.

This is the first important international competition for the Cuban divers, who’re planning to participate in the third phase of the Grand Prix, to be held in Montreal, Canada, from April 28th through May 1st.

The representatives of the Caribbean island will have a tight competitive schedule, which will include the World Championship in Shanghai, China, from July 16th through the 31st, and the 16th Pan-American Games of Guadalajara, Mexico, from October 14th through the 30th, among other events.

Cubans could also attend, due to their well-known level, to this year’s World Series, an event by invitation only, to be held in Moscow, Russia (March 18-19), Beijing, China (March 25- 26), Sheffield, Great Britain (April 15-16) and Veracruz, Mexico (April 22-23), according to the Web site of the International Diving Federation.(ACN)
