Caribbean Countries Establish Regional Energy Policy

Por Ileana Ferrer Fonte.Flags of member countries of CARICOM.Georgetown, Mar 25 (Prensa Latina) As of Friday, the member countries of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) have an established energy policy for regulating prices and ensuring the regional oil supply.

 A project approved Thursday by regional energy ministers during a session of the Council for Trade and Economic Development stipulates the regulations referring to the energy and transport sector for the CARICOM common market.

Drawn up by representatives from Barbados, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Surinam and Trinidad and Tobago, the project also seeks to ensure regional cooperation mechanisms to maintain stable fuel prices.

Since mid-March, six Caribbean islands, including Haiti, increased the value of fuel by at least five dollars, due to the recent rise in world market prices.
