2011.04.01 - 13:56:59 / radiorebelde.icrt.cu. Santiago de Cuba.- The cruise ship Discovery , with 532 English tourists on board, arrived on Friday in the eastern Cuban city of Santiago de Cuba, coming from Montego Bay, Jamaica.
Nearly 220 passengers took on tours through the city, including a visit to the San Pedro de la Roca Castle, a fortress built at the entrance of the harbor to defend the city during the Spanish colonial period, which was declared a World Heritage Site in 1997.
Some other tourists chose to go to La Gran Piedra (The Big Rock), a natural vantage point in a place of exuberant vegetation with low temperatures almost the entire year; whereas others preferred to visit the former Moncada Garrison, the Antonio Maceo Revolution Square, and the Cespedes Park.
The arrival of the MV Discovery in Santiago de Cuba last December opened the cruise season in the territory and it will also close it with its departure to Havana on Friday.(ACN)
