Vietnam star to play commemoration chess in Cuba

QÐND - Monday, May 02, 2011, 22:24 Vietnamese grandmaster Le Quang Liem, 20, will take part in a chess tournament in Habana city from May 10-21 to commemorate the late chess legend Jose Raul Capablanca of Cuba.
Liem, who is invited to the event as the champion of the 2011 Aeroflot Open chess tournament, will compete against five other elite players including Ukrainian Vassily Ivanchuk, the world’s number 5; David Navara (Czech, world’s number 22), and Dmitry Andreikin (Russia, world’s number 49).
Cuban organizers will cover all costs of food, accommodation and transport in the nation for participant players.
After the event, Liem will leave Cuba for France to play for Evry Grand Roque in May.
He had played for clubs in Germany and China in the first half this year.
