Artificial Intelligence, Robotics at Cuban Congress

By: Ileana Ferrer Fonte. 10:28Havana, May 19 (Prensa Latina) The latest technological innovations applied to health, such as robotics, artificial intelligence and prostheses, captured the interest of participants on Thursday at the 5th Latin American Congress on Biomedical Engineering.
The event, which ends Friday, is sponsored by the Regional Council of Biomedical Engineering for Latin America, and includes many lectures, such as one on the development of Coolinside, a surgical device for radiofrequency-assisted resection.
Others address the latest advances in prostheses, such as personalized skull implants and the reengineering of lower-limb prostheses.
Informatics and its importance in improving the quality of medical services, as well as the latest applications for nanotechnologies, are other topics of the meeting.
As host, Cuba will share its experiences in monitoring neuromuscular functions and perspectives for the island and the region.
The event opened Monday with 500 delegates from Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Spain, Germany, the United States and China.
The 5th Latin American Congress on Biomedical Engineering is also being also sponsored by the Pan-American Health Organization, the Cuban Ministries of Health and Sciences, Technology and Environment, and the Academy of Sciences, an institution that is celebrating its 50th anniversary.
