Algiers, May 25 (Prensa Latina) Cuban health professionals have contributed to alleviate the suffering of patients with diabetic foot ulcer in several regions of Algeria, barely three months after starting a binational collaboration project, according to medical sources.

Since their arrival in this country in February this year, nine Cuban specialists gave services of angiology to 1,268 patients with diabetic foot ulcer and treated another 995 in the podiatry specialty, unprecedented here, and another 82 in physical rehabilitation.

Their assistance is part of a project to make operational four units for the comprehensive treatment of diabetic foot ulcer, the results of which were highly valued by Cuban and Algerian medical and diplomatic sources.

They told Prensa Latina that 29 patients reported an improvement of over 98 percent in those four units thanks to the drug Heberprot-P made by the Havana-based Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB).

Renowned Cuban angiologists and vascular surgeons contribute daily to training Algerian medical and paramedical staff and take part in scientific events.
