By Luis Herrera Yanes — last modified Jun 11, 2011 05:54 PM. Heavy rains, with accumulations over 100 millimeters in 24 hours, have wet the panorama in 14 locations of Sancti Spiritus, Fomento and La Sierpe, in the central Cuban province, as a result of a low pressure area in the Caribbean.
Thursday was the most significant day with figures such as the 159 mm in Cayajana Spillway, 157 mm in Sancti Spiritus city, 150 mm in Higuanojo Dam, 131 in Guasimal and 127, 5 in Zaza Dam. However, the place taking the credit for most rains was Agabama with 178, 3 mm.
Trinidad, in southern Sancti Spiritus, continues its fight with water as only 6, 7 mm fell during that day and the current accumulation is below the 40% average record for June.
In Sancti Spiritus city, reports account that in about three hours (until Thursday midnight), 20 places have described floods in their houses.
As for the Zaza Dam, up to Friday 8:00 am, it had a 31 % of its total capacity, though it was getting benefit from every river supplying it.
From next week on rains are expected to behave accordingly to the spring season in Cuba.
