2011.06.14 - 20:17:13 / radiorebelde.icrt.cu. Havana, Cuba.- US renowned actor and producer Danny Glover said in Havana that the Caribbean and African cinema are key voices for the world cinematography.
Visiting the venue of the Traveling Caribbean Film Festival, of which he is its President of Honor, Glover declared himself a defender of multicultural exhibitions and those open to different voices.
Glover recognized the value of the upcoming Meeting of Filmmakers from Africa, the Caribbean and its Diasporas, organized by the Festival’s Office, to take place in Havana on September 12-16.
Glover promised not only to attend the event but also to spread its call in the US cinematographic community.
The American artist said the film industry is taken as a space for individual success rather than for collaboration among filmmakers, exchange of ideas and mutual support.
As a result the film community could end up “near-sighted” and isolated on its own and limited vision, which doesn’t allow actors to stand back from it and see different perspectives, he noted.
As a counterpart of this excluding and individualized configuration, Glover lauded the importance of finding different visions regarding cinema that could serve as a bridge among creators.
The Traveling Caribbean Film Festival is currently underway in Costa Rica. It is sponsored by the Costa Rican Film Production Center.
The event includes screenings in Cuba, Colombia, Venezuela, Jamaica, Guadalupe and Curazao, among other nations.
