Russian state oil company Zarubezhneft expects to sign a contract June 24 for a recovery project at the Boca de Jaruco onshore section, news agency Interfax reported.

Under the agreement, the company will introduce oil recovery technology at the Boca de Jaruco onshore oil field, a Zarubezhneft executive said at a conference. The Boca de Jaruco area has produced sulphur-heavy oil for decades.

In a first stage, the company will use steam technology, which it is planning to begin testing in August at its Orenburg field in Russia. Cuba will be the first testing ground overseas for the new technology.
