2011.06.27 - 11:40:48 /radiorebelde.icrt.cu. Cuba Appoints New Minister of the Basic Industry.HAVANA, CUBA.- The Cuban Council of State, at the proposal of its President, agreed to promote Tomas Benitez Hernandez to the post of Minister of the Basic Industry (MINBAS).
According to a note published on Monday by Granma newspaper, Benitez was temporarily occupying that post since September 2010.
The newly appointed minister has occupied different leading posts in the National Electric Union (UNE). He was also general director of the Cubapetroleo oil company (CUPET), and first deputy minister of the Basic Industry.
The note adds that engineer Alfredo Lopez Valdes was appointed first deputy minister of MINBAS. For several years, Lopez Valdes was the general director of UNE and later he was the minister of the Fishing Industry, until the merger between this entity and the Food Industry took place in 2009. (ACN)
