July 9, 2011. Cuban painter Agustin Bejarano's trial has been postponed, the painter has been in jail in Miami on sexual abuse charges of a minor and the legal process has been rescheduled for the coming September 19.
The Defense bench petioned the judge during the hearing that took place in a Miami Court and the postponement was granted.
The trial should have been held on July 18 but the defense attorneys said they needed more time to prepare the case.
Agustín Bejarano declared himself guilty at the Hialeah police department but later he said to be innocent at the Miami Court. The prosecution said the minor was receiving psychological help and introduced other evidences to the judge which serve to go ahead with the case versus Bejarano.
The Cuban artist traveled to the United States to participate in the Arteamericas Fair and during a meeting with friends he supposedly committed the felony. Several artists in Cuba have defended Bejarano's innocence but he will have to prove this at the Miami Court.
