2011.08.16 - 16:29:03 / radiorebelde.icrt.cu. The American Crocodile facility, located in the protected area of Sabanalamar in western Pinar del Rio province attracts Cuban families that visit the beaches of the southern coast this summer.

The installation which belongs to the Flora and Fauna Office offers guided tours by specialists that explain the characteristics of the reptile in danger of extinction and whose reproduction is carried out in captivity.

According to vacationers, photographing the four existing crocodile species in the American continent has become a great attraction during the summer vacation.

The visitors say that the attraction has not only been recreational but educational making it much more than just a visit to the beach.

According to the center’s documents there are almost 1 000 reptiles in Sabanalamar, one of 8 nurseries dedicated to the reproduction of the American crocodile, very much desired for the quality of its skin and meat.

This reptile, endemic from Brazil to US state of Florida grows in the northwestern part of Cuba which is also famous for its great white sand beaches only of its type in Cuba and abundant land and marine vegetation.

Media outlets confirm that among other options, visiting the crocodile farm has become famous among its visitors. These reptiles are capable of reaching 6 meters long and enjoy the food offered by the visitors at the Boca de Galafre and Bailen coastal areas. By Elena Milián Salaberria. (ACN)
