2011.08.22 - 09:57:50 / radiorebelde.icrt.cu / Havana, Cuba.-  A squad made up of 129 athletes, including eight world champions and 11 medalists of Berlin 2009, will be representing the United States at the World Athletic championship to be held in Daegu, South Korea scheduled to take place from August 27th to September 4th.

The above mentioned squad includes 63 women, as well as  U.S . athletes Allyson Félix and Sanya Richards-Ross , medalists in Berlin in the 200 and 400 meters events, who will compete in the same events and in the relay race competition.

Moreover, Brittney Reese, medalist in the long jump event, and Carmetita Meter, will compete in the 100metres and relay events.

It is a large U.S delegation in which there are 16 medalists of the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. Besides, it includes world champions from last year, Walter Dix in the 100, 200 and relay race events, Christian Cantwell in the shot put competition and Trey Hardee (decathlon).

Meanwhile, two important figures of the U.S. athletics will not take part in the prestigious competition due to recent injuries suffered by them: Sprinter Tyson Gay and Jeremy Wariner.

Great Britain, on its part, also announced its team to Korea which is made up of 67 athletes and the world champion in the heptalon competition, Jessica Ennis, and triple jumper Phillips Idowu who finished fifth with 17 meters and 59 centimeters.

Other nations that also announced their teams to the aforementioned competition include Bhamas and Brazil with 18 and 30 athletes, respectively. Besides, experienced athlete Debbie Ferguson, who was world champion in 2001 and bronze medal holder in Athens 2004 and Berlín 2009, as well as Leevan Sands, bronze medal holder in 2003 in the triple jump event, are leading the squad from Bahamas.

The main top-class athletes of the Brazilian team in Korea include Fabiana Murer, indoor world champion in the pole event and long jumper Maurren Higa Maggi, Olympic champion in Beijing. By Ramón Rivera and Translated by: Juan Carlos Caballero Puig
