Cuba Celebrates End of Summer with Nationwide Book Festival

HAVANA , Cuba, Aug 26 (acn) Cuba will celebrate the end of summer with a nationwide Book Festival and entertainment activities, on Saturday, August 27.
According to website Cubasi, activities in the Cuban capital will take place in the Fe del Valle and Central parks, and the popular San Rafael Boulevard will be the main venue of this event, from 10 a.m. on.
The program of activities includes book sales for children and teenagers, poetry and music concerts, literary debates, film screenings, and puppet theater plays, among others.
During a press conference, the vice president of the Cuban Book Institute, Aida Bahr, noted that the purpose of the festival is to offer entertainment for the family and getting them ready for the new school year.
One of the main highlights of Saturday is the launching of books published by the Fernando Ortiz Foundation, at 12 sharp, at the Central Park. There, at 3 p.m., Julio Gomez Llucia will lead a literary and sports debate with the presence of renowned Cuban athletes, and the launching of books on Ana Fidelia Quirot and baseball.
Poets and singers from different generations like Samuel Aguila, Heidi Igualada, Karma Duet, Fernando Becquer, Alpidio Alonso, Joaquin Borges Triana and Irina Pino will meet at the Fe del Valle Park, from two though six in the afternoon.
A meeting will be held at Havana’s Cultural Center with specialists from the National Center on Sexual Education (CENESEX), who will present some materials on sexual education for parents and teenagers and will screen series “Pubertad” (puberty).
Children will be able to enjoy the screening of Cuban cartoons such as “Elpidio Valdes” and “Vampiros en la Habana” at the Cinecito movie theatre. Other activities for children will take place at the “Alegria de Colon” children’s park.
On Saturday, the San Rafael Boulevard will offer a magical encounter with literature in Cuba, and an excellent closing for the summer with this Book Festival.
