Japanese experts help Cuba to develop aqua-farms

By Indo Asian News Service. Havana, Sep 13 (IANS) Japanese experts are providing technical know-how to Cuba to help develop its aqua-farms.
Sakaki Masanosuke, an official of the Rural Development Department, told Prensa Latina that Japanese experts are involved in a five-year aquaculture development project in the town of Santa Cruz del Sur in central Camaguey province.
The project is aimed at joint research with Cuban experts for the development of red snapper and sea bass that are of great commercial and gastronomic value, Prensa Latina reported Monday.
Masanosuke said that though the project is mainly for research, the two fish are now being produced in ponds in Santa Cruz.
Japanese experts are also providing help to Cuban scientists for developing genetically modified rice seeds to be planted by farmers in five central Cuban provinces.
