By: Linda Hurtado. HAVANA, Cuba - On the tenth anniversary of 9/11, reporter Linda Hurtado and multi media journalist Tim Jones shared a story on what it's like to be out of the country on that day, and the happy event that brought a 10 year old Largo girl to Havana, Cuba.
In a sleepy beach town called Jaimanitas, 45 minutes outside the city of Havana, in the colorful neighborhood of the famous Cuban artist Fuster, a 10-year-old Largo girl turned one year older. The decorations are traditional but the moment is unique.
Jennifer Fuentes turned 11 on 9-11-11, and said, "This is my first birthday in Cuba. I've never been here before. I have my whole family around me and very happy."
Jennifer Fuentes flew over on one of the first new charter flights from Tampa. Her mom, who was born in Cuba, understands that it is a difficult day but said, "It's difficult, but what? Six years and now I have my family with me. It's a happy day."
So for this Largo family, this 9/11 is a day to celebrate life. I asked Jennifer what her birthday wish was. Her repsonse? "I actually think I already got my wish, to be here with my family and celebrate such an important day for me."
