By Luis Chirino / Friday, 23 September 2011 08:39. The US economic, financial and commercial blockade of Cuba denies the island its purchase of components and parts for its open pit mining sector.
The persecution and harassment of business people and companies in third countries prevents the island from purchasing in Mexico sulfuric acid needed in nickel and cobalt processing plants, in the eastern province of Holguin, Cuban news agency reported on Thursday.
The total loss caused by this action alone amounts to over 14 million dollars, according to the Cuban report demanding the end of the US economic, financial and commercial blockade, which will be submitted to the UN General Assembly in October.
Another action of aggressive nature by Washington against Cuba resulted in the annulment of a contract with a European company through which Cuba would have purchased excavation equipment for the nickel sector. / RHC
