English.news.cn 2011-10-07 19:31:58. HANOI, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) -- Cuba wants to promote cooperation with the Asian nation.
The Vietnam-Cuba Inter-Governmental Committee held its 29th conference here on Friday chaired by Vietnamese Minister of Construction Trinh Dinh Dung and Cuban Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment Rodrigo Malmierca Diaz.
The conference would focus on bilateral cooperation and measures to implement it in an effective way, and that rice production should be given priority, Dung said.
Dung said that measures should be set forth to solve the debt in trade and promote trade between the two countries.
Malmierca said that Cuba is facing with difficulties, especially the U.S. trade embargo imposed on the country. Cuba's growth rate in the first six months this year reached only 1.9 percent, lower than the planned target of three percent.
However, Cuba will enhance the efficiency of energy using and domestic production of crude oil, and attract more foreign tourists. Despite difficulties, Cuba pledges to implement the signed agreements, said the Cuban official.
He added that Vietnam's agricultural projects are of great help for Cuba. With its potentials, Cuba wants to promote cooperation with Vietnam in bio-technology and pharmacy.
During the two-day conference, the two sides will sign documents on cooperation.
