Event on cardiothoracic anesthesiology in Cuba

On Friday 10 and Saturday 11 February, was developed in Havana an event on the progress of cardiothoracic anesthesiology, in which Cuban and foreign experts shared their experiences and studies in this branch of medicine.
The Surgical Hospital Hermanos Ameijeiras, hosts the meeting, which ended last Saturday and focused its discussions on the care and perioperative care of cardiac patient for noncardiac thoracic surgery such as lung resection.
ACN announced Dr. Antonio Cabrera, president of the organizing committee, which also showed the first experiences in Cuba for minimally invasive cardiac surgery.
Also anesthesia in children with heart disease, cardiovascular emergencies and advances in neonatal extracorporeal technologies in neonates and infants, among other topics.
Dr. Haydee Pascual, a specialist in physiology and resuscitation of the Institute of Oncology and Radiobiology and member of the organizing committee, said that in the six centers for cardiovascular surgery in the island are conducted annually about 200 thousand cardiovascular surgery, with remarkable results.
They are the Ameijeiras Brothers Hospital, Institute of Cardiology and Cardiovascular Surgery, the Center for Medical-Surgical Research, and the William Soler cardiology centers in the capital and the like of Villa Clara and Santiago de Cuba, all possess advanced technology.
As part of the day, was presented the award Dr. Fernando Polanco, a prominent Cuban anesthesiologist, forming generations of professionals in this specialty.
Among the works that chose the award they are situated: Risk factors associated with mortality in surgery multivalvular, and Driving anesthetic video-assisted cardiac surgery: first cases in Cuba.
Similarly is anesthetics to surgical methods of myocardial revascularization without cardiopulmonary bypass, said Dr. Pascual.
