Start 2012 with low infant mortality rate in Holguin

The first two months of this year 2012 closed with a Holguin infant mortality rate of 1.58 per thousand live births, making it one of the best figures in the country.
Dr. Alina Arencibia, head of mother-child program in the territory, told ACN that there were three deaths, 10 fewer than in similar time last year, when it ended with rate 6.47.
He added that the municipalities of Mayari and Moa Cacocum reported deaths in children under one year, while it accounted for the birth of 903 thousand children in the various maternity Holguin, slightly lower than the reported birth time.
He also acknowledged the vigilance of staff in delivery rooms, neonatal nurseries and therapy planning, the performance in the communities of the 55 masters in genetic counseling and the group of the maternity hospital Vladimir Ilich Lenin, as keys to this result.
Dr. Fernando Gonzalez, Provincial Director of Health, said the work is basic of Family Physicians, which focuses primary attention and monitoring of pregnant women, with the support of the areas of Health and the rest of the system.
In particular, future moms who have some type of complication and timely display of the risk posed by pregnancy in females too young or otherwise, on the edge of the fertile period.
Both circumstances, appreciated Gonzalez, are the main challenges for the province in this field, the frequent occurrence of associated diseases and other disorders, a commitment for the future.
