Luis Abreu, member of the mythical Cuban rumba band Los Papines, passed away in Havana last Tuesday, leaving a huge feeling of emptiness in national culture.
Along with his brothers Alfredo, Jesus and Ricardo, Luis was an excellent percussionist who dedicated his life to one of the most internationally known Cuban arts groups.
Los Papines, set up in Havana in 1963, showed that its members were percussion masters, who, along with their unique voices, made them stand out among other such bands. Conga drums and bongos prevails in Los Papines, in addition to the "claves", "maracas", cowbells and "güiros".
They have performed in a large number of Latin American, European and African countries, where they have always received both audience's and critic's acclaim .
Luis Abreu will be cremated by express will of the family.
