Cuba has been reelected to preside over the Intergovernmental Committee for Physical Education and Sport (CIGEPS) of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
According to a UNESCO communiqué, Arnaldo Rivero Fuxa, national director
of the Cuban System of Sports Education, will preside over the group
during the upcoming term.
The note adds that, in spite of the current world financial crisis, the
CIGEPS will continue working to strengthen its program in the sports field
and, particularly, in some topics such as the fight against doping.
The CIGEPS was established in 1978 to promote the role and value of sport
and its inclusion in public policy. It is comprised of expert
representatives in the field of physical education and sport from eighteen
UNESCO Member States, each elected for a four-year term.
