Cuba received more than 1.24 million tourists from January to April 2012 and the number of tourists represents a growth of 5.2 percent of the total international tourism in the world, said the National Statistics Office of Cuba (ONE).

In a note published in its website, ONE said the data means 61,337 tourists more than in the same period of 2011.

In the month of April, 288,135 visitors were received, representing 4.8 percent more than in April 2011, 18.6 percent more than in April 2010 and 21.9 percent more than in April 2009.

In the recently celebrated 2012 International Tourism Fair, Cuban Tourism Minister Manuel Marrero said the island has now very attractive natural resources and a historical and cultural legacy, which has permitted to receive 1.73 million tourists from December 2011 to April 2012.

Marrero pointed out these attractive places conquer people from countries like Canada, France, Argentina and another 20 nations, including Germany, Mexico, Venezuela, Holland, Colombia and Brazil.

Tourism showed a sustained development last year, when important investments in Varadero, Cayo Coco and Santa Maria (north of Cuba) were concluded.

Other tourist tourism hubs are being developed in Havana, the center and the east of Cuba.
