The 32nd edition of the Caribbean Festival, devoted this year to the people and culture of Martinique, was officially inaugurated on Tuesday with a varied artistic gala.
The Heredia Theater in this city was the venue for the opening of this meeting, considered to be the most important of its kind in the region, due to its characteristics and the high amount of participants, which has gradually increased throughout decades of work.
Starting from Tuesday and until July 9, Santiago de Cuba will be, like every year, the cultural capital of the Caribbean, which is confirmed by the 1,200 participants coming from some 30 nations.
Also known as Fiesta del Fuego (Fire Fiesta), the festival’s inauguration included the opening of an exhibition by sculptor Alberto Lescay, and of the Martinique Center at the Orestes Acosta Recreational Club.
The Festival brings together intellectuals, academicians, researchers and artistic groups, showing the richness and similarities of cultures in the area.
