The Cuban government on Tuesday confirmed its active support for dialogue in the peace process opened between the Colombian government and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), according to an official statement by the Cuban Foreign Ministry.
The Foreign Ministry referred to the “discrete and constructive efforts” made by Havana to find a negotiated solution to the Colombian conflict while “always responding to requests from the parties involved and without exerting the slightest influence on their respective positions.”
The note states that exploratory talks have been ongoing in the Cuban capital since this past February 23, with the island’s government having zealously respected its commitment to confidentiality, as agreed on by all parties.
Cuban national television broadcast the full speech of Colombia President Juan Manuel Santos, and the FARC’s top leader, Rodrigo Londoño – both transmitted from that country.
