At the tables with the Cuban Grand Master Lenier Dominguez, the Russian team from St. Petersburg dominated the Tomsk-400 today, 4-2, retaining its lead from the European Championship Chess Club in Eilat, Israel. According to the digital site Jit, the winners for St. Petersburg were the Russian Grand Masters Peter Svidler (ELO: 2747) and Nikita Vitiugov (2691), with a truce called between Dominguez (2734), Georgian Sergei Movsesian (2699), the Ukrainian Zahar Efimenko (2689) and the Russian Vadim Zvjaginsev (2678).

Specifically, the Cuban player played black against the Ukrainian Alexander Areshchenko (2710) after 52 moves using the Sicilian defense.

Dominguez achieved 2.5 points in the Championship, the product of a victory and three ties in four games, while his team remained on top with 10 points.

Today the St. Petersburg team will face SOCAR, deputy leader of the tournament with eight wins and in which will compete, among others, players at the level of the U.S. Gata Kamsky (2755), Azeri Shakriyar Mamedyarov (2748) and Bulgarian Veselin Topalov (2751).

Mamedyarov or Topalov are expected to play Leinier Dominguez on Tuesday, in the second round of the day.
