The runoff election for municipal delegates in Cuba began today in 136 of the 168 municipalities in the country, where there are 3, 210 polling stations opened.
From 07:00 local time (12:00 GMT) citizens will go to the polls in schools, workplaces and other facilities that have published biographies of the candidates and the list of the voters.
This vote takes place today in 13 of the 15 provinces of the country, after being postponed in Santiago de Cuba and Holguin due to the damage in those eastern territories by Hurricane Sandy, which hit Cuba on October 25.
At 18:00 (23.00 GMT) polling stations will close unless unforeseen situations will need the authorities to extend the hours.
According to the National Electoral Commission (CEN), some 960,000 people are called for the second round, after the first one held last October 21.
Elections this Sunday will be held in 1,160 districts (municipal divisions)where none of the candidate got half of the valid votes.
This time, the majority will be enough to determine the delegates to the municipal assemblies, but if there is a tie, it will require a new round, as stipulated under the Electoral Act in force in Cuba since 1992.
