Cuba is participating in the 32nd International Trade Fair of India with a stand focused on the promotion of tourism and its aspiration to become an attractive destination for this and other South Asian countries.
"Our country is attending this colossal event for the fouth time with the intention of promoting Cuban cigars and other traditional leading products, but above all Cuba's own image and the potential of its tourism industry," the Cuban Ambassador Abelardo Cueto told Prensa Latina.
One of the largest in the world, the trade fair brings together more than six thousand exhibitors from 22 countries, including India, and according to the organizers will host around two million visitors during the two weeks that it will remain open.
Cuba is the only Latin American nation at the fair this year.
Cueto appreciated the contribution of the Indian Organisation of Trade Promotion to the event and highlighted the excellent working relationship between the embassy and ministries such as Foreign Affairs, Trade and Industry, Sports and other Indian entities.
Meanwhile, the first secretary of the embassy in charge of trade and cooperation, Nidia Banos, pointed out that bilateral relations in this area are very good.
A good level of sales is being maintained to India of cigars, rum and other traditional Cuban products, and the strategic partnership between Cuba's Center of Molecular Immunology and BioCon Pharmaceuticals Company, with headquarters in the city of Bangalore, is one of the largest in Asia, she pointed out.
Meanwhile Nidia Baños added that Cuba imports generic drugs and raw materials for pharmaceuticals, chemicals products, tires and elements for the exploitation of renewable energy sources, among others from the Asian giant.
