Cuban Leader Raul Castro Meets Suriname President

Cuban leader Raul Castro on Sunday met with Suriname President Desire Delano Bouterse, who is on an official visit to the island nation, official media said.
During the meeting, both leaders reiterated willingness to work toward the strengthening of fraternal ties between the two countries.
Castro thanked Bouterse for helping victims of Hurricane Sandy which hit the island last month, killing 11 people and destroying hundreds of thousands of houses, while Bouterse stressed that the Caribbean island has helped many countries in the world in their difficult times.
Cuba and Suriname established diplomatic ties in May 1979 and Havana started medical cooperation with Suriname in 1988.
