Mexican singer-songwriter Julieta Venegas brought to Havana the United Nations' worldwide campaign to end violence against women.

The Covarrubias Hall of the National Theater had a full house Monday night for a concert that also featured such Cuban artists as Santiago Feliu and Rochy Ameneiro.

"I love the people here, I love Cuba," Vanegas told reporters after the show. "The people are so generous, very committed, very devoted, they have a way of listening that is beautiful, it's the ideal audience."

About the United Nations Secretary General's Campaign to End Violence Against Women, UNiTE, the writer of songs like "Eres para Mi" (You're for Me) and "Limon y Sal" (Lemon and Salt) stressed the need to raise awareness on the subject, which, she believes, "is never discussed sufficiently."

The singer will take part Tuesday together with documentary filmmaker Catherine Murphy in a panel discussion on the issue at the Casa de la ALBA in the Cuban capital.

Venegas, who has sold millions of albums and won five Latin Grammys, became a goodwill ambassador for Unicef in 2009.
